An Online Somatic Education and Certification Program
Available online worldwide, Field Study is a comprehensive, 16-week digital certification—approximately 150 hours of study—in somatic education. This program incorporates self-study, recorded content, peer group sharing, and real-time interactions with The Class Teacher Guides and guest speakers.
Field Study is a 16-module immersion grounded in ceremony, science, philosophy, and the living methodology of The Class. The curriculum moves through physiology, breath mechanics, nervous-system literacy, and the art of facilitation, while strengthening each participant’s ability to support others from a deeply felt place.
Designed for practitioners, movers, educators, healers, creatives, and the curious, it functions as a multidimensional framework expressed through this work, not a straightforward technique. Field Study brings learners into the intersections of modalities, bodily intelligence, and lived experience, offering an environment where understanding emerges through sensation, inquiry, and embodied presence.
Why Field Study?
Since The Class was founded almost fifteen years ago, students from around the world have been asking for a deeper way in—an opportunity to immerse themselves more fully in the Method and the foundational principles that inform The Class. They have sought not only to strengthen their personal practices, but to better understand what is happening within their bodies, to develop greater nervous system awareness, self-understanding, and presence, and to carry the philosophy of The Class into their daily lives, relationships, professions, and creative pursuits.
Today, the world is faster, louder, and more fragmented. Rates of stress, disconnection, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation continue to rise, while meaningful, embodied tools for integration remain limited or inaccessible. Now more than ever, people are seeking methodologies that reconnect them to their bodies, their inner intelligence, and one another.
Field Study is one of several initiatives The Class is creating to meet this moment—to amplify awareness, broaden access, and steward our mission to ignite collective consciousness through individual practice. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that those who feel called to this work have a clear, intentional pathway to learn, integrate, and embody it. It is both a response to what has been asked for and a step toward the enduring legacy of The Class.

Field Guides
Jaycee Gossett
Jaycee Gossett is a Founding Teacher and Chief Experience Officer at The Class, where she helps translate the method across studios, digital platforms, and teacher education. Before joining the team, she spent years traveling, studying movement across cultures, competing in ballroom dance, and working in television. Those experiences shaped her perspective of the body as a living archive that holds rhythm, memory, and emotion in equal regard.
With more than a decade of global teaching experience, Jaycee brings a somatic approach grounded in nervous-system awareness. Through breath, presence, and deep listening, she creates environments that invite students to slow down, tune inward, and reconnect with their inherent strength on the mat and beyond.
Aimee Cox
Aimee Meredith Cox, PhD, is a cultural anthropologist, movement artist, and Associate Professor at New York University. She serves as the Director of Training & Development and Lead Teacher at The Class, where she bridges embodied practice with rigorous scholarship.
She is the award-winning author of Shapeshifters: Black Girls and the Choreography of Citizenship (Duke University Press, 2015), recipient of the Victor Turner Book Prize in Ethnographic Writing, among other honors. A former Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow, Aimee’s research centers embodied citizenship, Black feminist thought, and the cultural life of movement.
A yogi of many decades and former performer with Ailey II and Dance Theatre of Harlem, Aimee integrates yoga, somatics, and critical inquiry into her pedagogy worldwide. At The Class, she brings intellectual depth, cultural awareness, and relational care — grounding Field Study in both academic integrity and embodied wisdom.
